I was worried about the physique but looking at the shots about - I'd say they got that part about right. Only concern is he looks a little too young - I still think the rumoured Matthew Maconahay would have been a better choice - just based on looking more mature. I'd feel better about taking orders from that Cap than the one they settled on. I just can't seem to get the Human Torch wiped from my memory. A role that I do think he did very well.

Via: How old is Captain America? [Archive] - Comic Book Resources ForumsCap was born in 1920, making him 21 years old at the time he undergoes the super-soldier treatment in Operation Rebirth. He starts fighting fifth columnists and sabetours even before Pearl Harbor, so technically he's already a combat veteran (albeit a novice) before America even enters the war. He's involved in combat alongside the Invaders and on conventional commando missions long before Operation Torch when American forces land in Algiers in late '42, so he's got a year's head start on just about every other American fighting man out there except some of the troops in the Pacific Theater, many of whom have been out of action since Corregidor fell. From there, its nonstop fighting across all fronts till he and Bucky go into the ice in early May of '45. Cap misses Hitler committing suicide in the fuhrer bunker.
That's all well and good Larch - in the comics does he look 21?
Well he went into a frozen state just before Hitler killed himself meaning that he would be around 26 or 27 when he was found again by the Avengers in the North Atlantic. So for the movie he would be around 21 I think. And I think every interpretation of Captain America by different artists would look different from comic to comic.

Yeah, they've always drawn Cap to look a bit older than he actually is. Also doesn't help that Cap comes across as a very mature character, never acting like a youngster.
The more I see of Chris Evans in the costume, the more I like it.

22 July is the release date for Captain America: The First Avenger but you will be able to see the first footage of Captain America: The First Avenger during the Super Bowl.
In the meantime this is our first clear photo of Sebastian Stan as Bucky along with another look at Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.
“Sebastian brought something really interesting and slightly on the dark side and really compelling to watch — when he’s on camera, you’re fascinated by watching him,” direct Joe Johnston told Hero Complex. “In a great cast, I thought he really stood out and brought some unexpected things to the role. Everyone brought something to the movie and a lot of them brought something great but I was most pleasantly surprised by what Chris brought and what Sebasatian brought in a much smaller role as Bucky.”
“Sebastian has a dark, slightly quirky side to him — and that’s the case when he’s in character or not — and he brought that to this movie. “
“You know, he was originally up for the lead, for the Steve Rogers role, but he didn’t have quite the same earnest, I-want-to-fight-for-my-country aura that Chris has for this role. Sebastian has a little bit of the bad boy, he’s a little bit of the James Dean type and that goes somewhat counter to the general perception of Steve Rogers. He wasn’t quite right for Captain America, but I think he’s perfect for Bucky because, really, he can have a little bit of that dark side.”
“We took some liberties with the relationship between the two guys. In our story, Bucky is already in the service, he’s already joined up and is being sent overseas while Steve is still struggling to get in the army. That’s different than what you may have read in the comics. It adds a nuance to the relationship that pays off later. They’re closer in age, too — they’re virtually the same age. That’s not the case at all if you go back to the old comics.
“In the comics, he’s like Robin is to Batman, but this is not that at all.”
”Our Bucky isn’t a sidekick and there’s a darker edge. This is a much more interesting relationship.”
Chris Evans also said that he will not be playing Captain America for nine films as previously though. Instead it will be for six movies according to CBM.
“To be honest it was quite intimidating and scary to commit to nine films in a row. God thank you, we reduced the number to six [3 Captain America, Avengers 3] … If all goes as planned, I embody Captain America until I was 40 years. .”
It sounds as if they are going with the Bucky from Ed Brubaker’s superb run on the Captain America comics. Could this mean that after the Avengers movie we may see the Winter Soldier in future Captain America films?

These latest photos give us our first glimpse of Tommy Lee Jones in uniform as Col. Chester Phillips and Richard Armitage as Heinz Kruger in Captain America: The First Avenger. We also get a splendid look at Chris Evans in costume as Captain America and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. The Daily Blam got the photos from the latest issue of Empire magazine.

The first poster for the Captain America is finally with us and it looks good. Probably wise that they didn’t show Chris Evans with the mask on, but the shield and the costume are all there. This Sunday will see the first trailer which will be shown during the Super Bowl. What do you think about the poster?
