Yar, I agree. Why work there in the first place if they can't do their job properly? This is 2nd hassle I've had to sort out - first one was they changed my account charges without my consent so I had to change that to unlimited (around R65 p/m) and that's with FNB. Now it's my online banking OTP cellphone number... Sigh. But at least I get to do some shopping at the Glen, buy what I need.

AND I'm looking forward to going to the Joburg PCBG LAN tomorrow morning in Edenfail... I can't wait - gonna own a few players... Woot!! And I get to meet Firestrm_ZA

what do you mean? the yearly increase? cause that always happens whether you know about it or not. no consent required as it just gets implemented.

What the hell happened to the world?

When I grew up you could go out without worrying who is trying to reach you or whose call you might miss. You could tell someone that you would meet them at shop X, at time Y and have no further comms till then. You could go home at 5pm, and nobody would care if their "mail" wasn't working until the next day. A system related problem on a Saturday was considered bad luck, and waited for Monday. It was considered bad manners to get a call after 8pm, unless something burned down or someone died. If for some reason you could only grab dinner late, you went out to a restaurant, or made it yourself. Nothing was open after that. Public Holidays you chilled at home or with friends. There was no a single thing open. Overtime was law, and Sundays was double time. December holidays started the 16th, and everyone was off.

Nowadays you can't complete a sentence with someone without them looking or typing on their phone. When arrangements are done, at least half a dozen messages needs to be sent. Your mail issue at 11pm, is apparently my mail issue at 11:01pm. A system problem on Saturday, is a catastrophe 15 minutes after the event, with the entire management structure CC'ed and updates required every 30 minutes after that. You can have Big Mac with Chips at 3am. Public Holidays just means "get to do the stuff you couldn't during your rediculous work week without lunch". Overtime is a grey area, or stipulated in your contract. December holidays is cancelled and oh, you are the unlucky one who gets Xmas day standby.

The world feels like it has moved from such a relaxed, patient, enduring place to a 24/7, unforgiving, want right-here-right-now place.

    Is it just me?

Nope not just you dude, i feel you.

First point you made, regarding the phone story. This is something that is getting to me more and more and it is all part of the "social Networking" thing. Yes there is alot of good that comes out of it
but social networking is the start of people becoming anti social. There is no such thing as discretion anymore. Say what you want and if it hurts your feelings who gives a damn.

The world has become a mean cruel place. If i could give up everything i have now to live peacefully on a island and work for my food i would do so in a heartbeat. Although my proffesion is in technology
i could easily live my life without it.

I envy the early days. When relationships meant something. And i mean family wise.

Blackberries and BBM's have become the bane of the social world, people BBM'ing and not watching where they are going and walking into you and store clerks to busy on their phones to help you srsly.

Yup, they just need to prove that they notified you of the change in charges well in advance.

If the address they sent that letter to was incorrect and it never reached you, it's not their problem.

So I am officially engaged now ) I took her to Alaturka @ Irene Farm Village (Centurion) what a epic place to eat! I would open heartily recommend it to anyone wanting to take their loved one to a place that is different and were the food is excellent. I like eating out @ different places and experiencing different cultures, but this place served the best Turkish food I have ever tasted, and the belly dancer entertainment was also great it included swords and fire. I took a video of it sorry for the angle and the quality you aren't actually allowed cameras inside, if you want to check out more visit their website here: alaturka

(Edit) I gave the ring to one of the belly dancers as they finished their show they did a small private dance (3 of them) and handed the ring over to the girlfriend in style.

    Congrats Larch!

I'm loving new zealand. Spending most of my time in Dunedin and the surrounding area is very different from Africa. Its truly shocking to see how much friendlier everyone is. The entire city is clean the busses are never more than two minutes late. Best of all the laws and rules&regulations are logical. For example prostitution is legal and very heavily regulated for the protection of the prostitutes, the morality/religious ideals were not a deciding factor only whats best for the people of the country. Government service delivery is of the highest calibre. Makes me realize how ****ed up our country is.

Try find out what the delinquency rates are, children becoming bored etc speciffically going out to cause shit, and the prevalence of teenage drug use / booze abuse.

My dad's brother returned to South Africa because of it, I can't recall where he had stayed.

Another mate, in Palmestone (sp?) regularly has his car radio stolen or the front of the house vandalised as "pranks". -- There is a definitely youth-yob culture, very much like has developed in Britain.

The drug use is mainly a problem among Mauris as they apparently have their own meth labs running but alchaholism is quite rampant, still no more so than in SA. As with all countries, different cities have very different characters. Also the north and south islands have very different cultures and groups. The ones I'm visiting at the moment seem much better. But at the end of the day I'd rather have a yob steal my car radio than being held up at gun point and robbed of everything I have.
