    Which 2TB hard drive?

I need to acquire additional HD space so I'm considering the WD Caviar Green WD20EARS or the Seagate Barracuda LP st32000542as.

Now the majority of my drives are Seagate but the Seagate drives in general have been a bit dodgy as of late so now I'm wondering whether the WD isn't a better option. I also see the LP st32000542as only rotates at 5900rpm whereas the WD is capable of almost 7200rpm (when not in power saving mode). This however shouldn't make a big difference since I'll be using the drive for storage only.

Which drive should I go with?

I would go Seagate but it seems its only slightly better than the WD.

I went with the WD Green Caviar drives because they seemed quite nicely priced and I'd unfortunately had a failed Seagate (there is a known problem with the 7200.11 range Seagates).

Sorry, should probably mention that that is for a storage drive (as is your need), i.e. super performance wasn't my aim but being a green low heat/noise drive it is quite nice for storage or putting in an enclosure.

2 tb Seagate 7200.12 green works very nicely. If you do use it as a C drive it just makes your loading times longer is all.

The specific Seagates that give an issue are the SD15 firmware of the 7200.11 range... I know this from first hand failure :P

Hope this helps u out, other than that all my drives are Seagate and work like a bomb!

Holy moly. Wherever did you come from Montezuma. It's been years man!

I too have been in the market for a 1.5 - 2TB drive but the reviews are very mixed. From the Samsung with high heat to the WD with lackluster performance. I may just stick with my 2*1TB Samsung F1's a bit longer.

Scary thing is... I didn't even realise it had been so long, but luckily now have PH access from work again.
