Help with ICS on my home network

Folks I need some assistance with ICS on my home network.

I have 2 PC's - One with Win 7 home premium 64 bit, and the other with Win XP SP 2.

The Win 7 machine is my primary machine, and I'm trying to share its internet connection with the XP machine. The two computers are connected with a Direct LAN Cable, and my internet connection is an MTN E170 3g modem.

Currently, I have the to PC's configured as follows. These settings were bastardized from how I used to setup my Xbox share my connection from this thread on the 360 forums:

Vodafone HUAWEI E220 setup / Settings

Win 7 PC (with internet connection)

    IP: 192.168.137.1
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    Preferred DNS 192.168.137.1
    ICS Enabled
    Windows Firewall ON
    MS Security Essentials ON

    Win XP PC:

    IP 192.168.137.2
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.137.1
    Windows Firewall OFF
    No Antivirus

Both machines can see the other and share files. In addition, my XP machine detects the Shared Internet Connection under network places.

What I don't get from the XP machine is any connection to the internet - I cannot ping anything.

Could it be the firewall on Win 7? I can't make head or tail of how to add a rule to allow my XP machine through the firewall.

If its not that, is there something else I am missing?

No - How do I do that? Assuming this is on the Win 7 Machine yes?

EDIT: It doesn't allow me to do that - says I can only bridge 2 LAN or High Speed Connection without ICS enabled. If I right click the 3g Adapter, I get no "bridge connection" option

I would disable the ICS and set all the IP address settings on automatically detect.

Then, enable ICS by sharing the 3G device on your Windows 7 PC. This will automatically set the LAN interface's IP address to 192.168.137.1
Leave your Windows XP PC's IP address settings on automatic. Just plug out its network cable and plug it in again. It should get an IP address in the 192.168.137.x range.

+1 wat pada said, it needs to use DHCP otherwise wont work!

Even if u manually set the dflt gateway etc it will not function without Automatic IPs enabled

    Its a miracle! It works.

Thanks Guys. In terms of firewalls - shall I leave the firewall on the XP machine off, or do I need to turn it on?

You can leave the Windows XP firewall off since the Win7's one would protect it.
