Request for formal quote for a order for the a company

have some questions on the following products and looking for suggestions.

the company i work for is in demand for large amounts of space as they work with Large geographical images.

    so ive bumped into this.

lian-li EX-50 eSATA external enclosure for 3.5 SATA HDD
    Product ID: 56070
    Code: A2_EE-LEX50
(Does the device alone support Raid or does a esata port also need to support it?)

    &

    lian-li IB-01 5-port SATA2&1 external
    Product ID: 62014
    Code: A2_AC-LiB01

but if possible to find a PCI card with multiple esata ports so that we can plug multiple enclosures (Above) and have RAID on each enclosure.

    help much appreciated.

Just curious but why would you RAID an external enclosure? The whole idea behind RAID is permanent stability to obtain extra speed whereas the idea behind externals is portability which isn't something you worry about with RAID since if you walk off with one of the drives the whole RAID array goes kapputt and so does your data.

just fufilling a request, but just remember im putting them in permanently as they will not be moved due to the constant use of data hence my question of multiple Esata ports
and they wanted the raid just so that if 1 HDD fails data will be able to be rebuilt. dont think you want to be hauling around this enclosure....

Ah I see, anyways you'll have to wait till the 4th of Jan for the shop to open again. That's the earliest someone will be able to respond (in an official capacity anyways). I don't work there I just help out on the forum.

Bringing Up My (in this case Your) Post only makes sense when your post has dropped off the first page. It's highly likely they're still backlogged (or perhaps the guy that responds to the forum is still on leave) so I'd just give them a call.

To be honest, as a professional business and this particular sub-forum being an extension of that, it should be monitored 24/7 from the moment the shop is officially open.

Needing a mod to pop in, who doesn't actually work for the shop, to defend it...reeks of unprofessionalism.

Personally if I was the original poster, I would have buggered off somewhere else on the 3rd already, especially if I'm representing a business.

@Xyder for your purposes I would highly recommend a Drobo (Drobo Products) or Western Digital Sentinel instead.

The setup you are trying to put together is a little silly, and looking for trouble, when you have products specifically designed for this in the market already.

    *****

Actually looking at the products you have there, I see now that the first is pretty much something like a Drobo.

Why do you need the PCI card as well? The External Enclosure is a self-contained device by the looks of it, which runs it's own RAID hardware and arrays all by itself and you simply connect it to your PC with E-Sata.

They don't need me to defend them...but I simply feel no reply at all is even worse than an unhelpful one.

    No definitely, and I agree.

But I figure a magic "push this button to have someone official respond to this thread" would be more beneficial to both yourself and customers.

    Hi Xyder,

Sorry for only replying now. We've been a bit busy this week and hardly touched ground.

Sauron basically gave you the gist of it. The EX-50 Lian-Li will do the exact job you want done. It runs to your PC via a single e-SATA port, supports up to 5 x 2TB hdds, and has it's own internal, hardware accelerated raid. There is no need for the PCI card, since you don't need to connect anything other than the single e-Sata port.

The only time when you'll need more ports, is when you want to connect more of these to the same machine.

In that case, you'll need something like this:
    Prophecy.co.za - Vantec UGT-ST400 2-Port eSATA II PCI Card

I'm trying to find PCI cards with more than one e-Sata port, but I cannot seem to find them now. Let me know if it's required, and I'll check with the supplier if they can get for me.
