    Samsung LED TV Network Error

    Hi guys.

So I just bought a new LED TV, Samsung UA32C5000QR.
    Heres my problem:

TV has a LAN connection for streaming media from the network, I have the cable plugged in, link light shows activity but when I do a network test I get the error below.
Have updated the firmware, have reset to default.
I'm under the impression it is a hardware issue, and what I've read suggests the same.
    Anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks.

Any chance you have Mac address filtering enabled on your Router?

If not, it might be that the network card isn't connected at all (it's clearly drawing power judging by the lights) and would probably need to be looked at by Samsung.

Could also be that the network card is software disabled in the menus somewhere.

Samsung will come out to your house for this though, so no real drama.

Sony or Samsung? Which is it now.

remember, each communication device in the world has a unique mac (hardware) address.
i find it hard to believe yours is ff:ff:ff......

check the back of the tv for a sticker with networking details on it.

Also, any chance you have NOT read the manual and that all of this is possibly explained in there?

I realise that the MAC address in the pic is wrong, and am quite familiar with networking equipment.
There is no sticker on the back.
Was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with this particular TV/problem.

iirc, as soon as a lan/wifi connection is possible on a consumer device, the hardware details HAVE to be on a sticker? surely that's why it's always available on wifi cellphones?

Yup, any device that networks to another, including ADSL and bluetooth.
Maybe there isnt an actual network card in the device, just the port, although then I dont see how/why the link lights would show.
Whats interesting is that I set the IP on the TV to static, cant ping it from the PC, but today (after its been connected for awhile) my firewall popped up asking to allow the Samsung PC Share manager software access to the TV's IP.

static/hardcoded/readonly ip is absurd (no offense), for any device. it most likely works via DHCP.
hence, it boils down to the MAC again, to reserve an IP for it.

you might not be able to access it, because it assigns itself a useless internal 169.x.x.x IP address and some unknown subnet address.
personally i would take it back and ask them "wtf is this sh*t"

    OK, so heres the latest.
Took it back to Game, we tested 2 others, same model and exact same problem.
Checked it on the 5 Series 40" and that was fine.
They are waiting to get hold of a dude from Samsung who will be able to help.

Final update, Liptronics came to collect the TV last Monday and had all kinds of hassles with them but managed to get the TV back on Monday with the mainboard replaced.
    Network is now working.

    Hi there,

I have found the same problem on our brand new Samsung LED UA40C5000 (bought from Hifi Corporation on 16/12/2010). I phoned the store on the 17th and I was told that it was a software issue and that the Samsung Service Department would phone me. They did and I was kept on hold for 20 minutes. The technician then said that he would phone me back in 10 minutes, which of course has not happened. So I went to Hifi Corp and after showing them a printout of this thread they now also believe that it is a hardware issue. But of course they now have no stock of this model...

pcbilski, could you please give me advise: do you think it is better to just return it? I am a bit disappointed that a brand new item will need a mainboard replacement.

I think that there must be quite a few of these TVs out there with this problem, but people just don't realise it because they are not using the network. (see this for example http://www.hellopeter.com/makro-dama...s-%5B487075%5D)

The TV itself is amazing so would be a shame to return it over this issue but I would understand if you did.
My advice is to complain as much as possible to Samsung themselves and maybe they can find you a replacement.
The other option is to have them collect it for repair which will take a few days, pretty crap on a brand new TV but if thats your only option go for it.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it is a great television and it also looks fantastic.

I will do what you suggest and just irritate Samsung and Hifi Corp into submission :-)

Hifi Corp has now confirmed that all their units have this problem. Very disappointed in Samsung!

Yeah, really disappointing. As I said, all the units I tested at Game had the same problem, but the 1 at the Samsung store was fine.
Also makes no sense that the whole mainboard needs to be replaced rather than just a network module, I guess everythings integrated.
Also, just for reference, the Samsung PC Share Manager software is rubbish. If the folder you're sharing is above a certain size it won't see some/all the files in sub-folders.
Any DLNA media server will work, I'm using TVMobili, free and works well, just no thumbnails.
Well, not actually using it rather got HDMI from my PC, but tested and works 100%.

Thanks you for the tip about TVMobili.

We finally managed to speak to a Customer Care Manager (Eben, you can also try Jack Osher) at Samsung who knew about the problem. They offered to come and replace the mainboard at our house. We then asked that they should rather deliver a fully functional television in its box to us. This will only happen next year, so at the moment we are using it as is. Cross your fingers!

I feel that Samsung is morally bankrupt for not recalling all these sets and for continuing to sell them. I understand it will cost them an arm and a leg to fix them all, but our money wasn't broken when we gave it to them :P
