    [ADVICE] New Wireless Mouse

My Logitech LX8 wireless mouse kicked the bucket this morning. I had known for some time this year that I would HAVE to replace it with a new one but I can't make up my mind and decide which one to go for. I'm lucky I have a spare mouse to use in the meantime.

Logitech has disappointed me - I was unable to use my mouse from my bed to the mouse receiver so I could stay in bed on a cold night and change whatever movies and series I want to watch.

I had a look at the reviews of the Microsoft Mouse 5000 and 6000 models. They are pro's and cons - the majority of users' saying it's not really good for day-to-day use - considering I abused my Logitech for 4 years, am not surprised it lasted me this long. I am not so sure if I should take the MS 5000 Mouse - it's around the same size as the Logitech one.

    So any suggestions?

I'm within a R400 budget - can't afford to spend more than that. It has to have bluetooth and bluetrack tech. It should also be able to last as long as my Logitech mouse. Oh and it HAS to be wireless too - I honestly cannot stand using a wired mouse (which I'm using at the moment and so close to killing it).

I'd just say get another Logitech (whatever the best model in your price range is) they're easily the best especially when it comes to wireless.
    Intel Core2Quad Q9550 (2.83Ghz (stock)), ASUS P5Q, ASUS ENGTX260/HDTP/896M, Transcend JetRam DDR2-800 2x2GB, 2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB, Gigabyte Odin 720W, Gigabyte G-Power 2 Pro CPU cooler,
CoolerMaster Ammo 533, Leadtek Winfast DTV2000H, Cyber Snipa Stinger lazer gaming mouse, Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 Headset, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64bit

This seems to be the only one I can find that's almost identical to my LX8 - seeing the LX8 is EOL now and not on the shop anymore.

    Prophecy.co.za - Logitech Marathon Mouse M705

For the price of it, I'll consider pushing my budget but that means skipping the bolt-through kit I wanted to buy as well, seeing the mouse is a priority over the bolt-through kit (it can wait til end of September).

Microsoft Sidewinder x8. I've had mine for about a year now and it is just fantastic. Range wise its the furthest non Bluetooth wireless mouse I have used.

That Logitech M705 is a great mouse, very comfortable and the batteries last for months really.
the only thing i don't like is that you kind off have to have it a little to vertical in hand and that irritates me as then the mouse moves semi diagonally across the screen if I use it to my preferred grip.

For me a Wireless mouse has to have one thing... Play and Charge at the same time e.g. X8, G700 and Mamba, nothing else will do for me and i have tried a few, MX1000, MX1100, Cheap Logitech wireless, Microsoft optical wireless.

One problem I found irritating is the fact that the batteries do not last, hence i have a Sidewinder X8, and I really do like it a lot, been using mine now for 1.5 years. Though i have to say the M-series from Logitech do use very little life from the batteries indeed.

Don't think I would have a problem with that - it could eliminate the strain on my wrist from a mouse that doesn't adjust to my arm / wrist / hand posture - I tend to lean my palm side on the table while i move my mouse with my fingers and thumb. Been trying to find the right mouse for that - even the LX8 was very comfortable and fitted well in with my small hand... The current cheapo microsoft mouse feels too big and cumbersome - not giving enough flexibility for me to move my fingers and keep my wrist on the table and the buttons on the front are kinda too far away. The LX8 was perfect plus the weight was a bonus (from the batteries) as it doesn't slide off the table very easily.

I have a set of two rechargeable batteries with a battery charger. My LX8's batteries last 6 months so that's not a problem for me - when they go flat, I charge them and "borrow" the TV remote's rechargeables for 2 hours then put the recharged batteries back in my mouse.

LOL, that is a problem if you are a student and your dad has to operate the TV for those 2 hours.

M705 is a really good mouse don't think you can go wrong with it.
    so +1 for the M705.

LOL you meant my boyfriend? Yeah, he would have a hissy fit - nah, I"ll use the cheapo mouse for the duration of the batteries charging - done it before when I needed to. And I'm not a student either. I work full-time for Prophecy Shop

ok so it's the M705 mouse I'm gonna choose.

Thank you all for your great help

Hehehe, it's ok... At least the input on the M705 was great help - good enough as the LX8 and something affordable too.

Thanks again for the help and advice

Off topic of wireless, on topic of mouse!

Anyone seen those new Logitech G300s yet?

    I'm due for an upgrade.

The G300 is not wireless, but from what I have seen and read stock is only due to start shipping towards the end of September, at 40$ though, this mouse at +-R300 should be good value,
I'm a sucker for keeping something that works though, and I still have my super trusty Intellimouse explorer 3.0

Thanks Jude - I have my Logitech G5 mouse. It is time to retire it. Can't get the software to work properly (in Windows or in the Logitech proprietary software).

They look really comfortable - just like the hundreds of running shoes I tried at a factory shop and spotted the bright orange Ascic's ones - I could see in the contour of the shoe that I would love it and when stepping into them to try them on for the first time, I felt like I had been shot into heaven. I didn't care about the colour and eventually the colour grew on me, wearing black with orange and white running shoes were a good colour combination for my fitness classes as well as grey pants and tops.

Back to the mouse, how big are they in size?

Well is it a notebook sized mouse or a reasonably sized mouse for people with small hands? if so, then fortunately for me I have small hands and that LX8 size was perfect for me.

Thanks for the link. It looks like a man's hands and most men's hands are bigger than mine so it looks rather big... So a no no for me Though I like the design of it, just one problem - don't like the silver on the button / top area - would have liked it more if it was all one colour or even navy blue with black like the LX8 and M705.
