Has it ever worked and then not worked on your old TV?

I'm betting it's only when you introduced more than one HDMI device that the trouble started.

    Different TV's handle it differently.

Mine is happy if I switch to VGA or TV, but if I switched to another HDMI channel it reboots.

Apologies - Sauron was right. Cut the looping wire and it's sorted. Thanks dude. MS still grates my balls with shit like this though.

Never tried it on my old TV - was on another 46" Sony for someone else. And I think on another 42" Sony on top of that as well. Must have been older HDMI versions as you said.

So in this case it was really just a handshake issue between my 360 and the new monitor, no? Issue arising due to the component cable obviously.

Whatever the case, I guess I owe you a R300 bottle of wine or something!

    He he he.

Yeah it's all about the handshake.

Basically while you have that looped wire connected it reports itself as a component cable to the Xbox, and the HDCP handshake figures you are trying to do something funny like pirating the signal because of this double video effort.

Cutting the loop leaves you with "Optical Dongle" only mode, exactly like the official one that comes with the HDMI kit.

You can't just snip off the rest of the wire now, it's dead in the water and doesn't need to hang off the back any more.

The funny thing is that Microsoft is simply being compliant. I stand to be corrected but you can't use the HDMI on the PS3 and a component connection at the same time either.

Yeah, I'm sure there are probably some legalities, but I still find it a ballache that you have to jump through these loops (no pun intended) just to get HDMI and Optical Audio functionality. I'm sure this has been corrected with the slim?

I'll snip the back-end of the cable off - just need a big enough pair of wire-cutters! Looks pretty neat after I gaffer taped the whole thing back together!
