Good day ladies and gentleman
This thread will be about products that are of exceptional value. The products showcased here are ones that i regard as good value.
First up the EVGA 465GTX.
Jude got PH a MASSIVE discount on the EVGA Fermi cards.
Prophecy.co.za - EVGA 01G-P3-1465-ET NVIDIA GeForce GTX465 1GB GDDR5 256-bit PCI-E 2.0
R2757.55 (inc VAT)
For that price its cheaper than the Gigabyte 460GTX OC and with a little OC of its own this card will take flight!
next up Sennheiser HD202 and HD407
Prophecy.co.za - Sennheiser HD 202 Stereo Circum-aural Closed Headphone
R368.22 (inc VAT)
Prophecy.co.za - Sennheiser HD407 Stereo Supra-aural Open Headphone
R368.22 (inc VAT)
Now the reason i listed both of them is cause one is Supra-aural Open and the other one Circum-aural Closed. (one encloses the ears and the other has a comfy sponge)
With prices like those you dont have to think twice on buying quality headphones.
I have the HD407. I upgraded from the Logitech digital precision's and the difference is immense! even on the normal onboard audio you will notice a difference.
UPDATE
Asus Maximus III Formula
After reading a lot of reviews on the new Maximus board from Asus i was extremely impressed with the efficiency in which it completes tasks. Be it 3D, multi threaded, etc.
The price is a little high on this Formula board but it comes with every little thing one could want.
R2987.78

I wont tolerate any kind of arguing in this thread. General questions are welcome.

Let's say I have a big head and wear glasses and like over the head headphones (the usual kind as opposed to those neck things these days)...and I have snapped headphones in the past whilst trying to squeeze them onto my head (Creative HS-350 and two other sets whose name I can't remember) which of the two headphones you suggest would be the better choice (sound quality be damned, so purely from a robustness and general comfort point of view)?

Intel Core2Quad Q9550 (2.83Ghz (stock)), ASUS P5Q, ASUS ENGTX260/HDTP/896M, Transcend JetRam DDR2-800 2x2GB, 2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB, Gigabyte Odin 720W, Gigabyte G-Power 2 Pro CPU cooler,CoolerMaster Ammo 533, Leadtek Winfast DTV2000H, Cyber Snipa Stinger lazer gaming mouse, Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 Headset, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64bit
They have the same "frame" so either one is good.
I do have a big head (irony) and these fit comfortably but i would go with the 202's because they are enclosed.
Any way we can request specials? I'm not sure how these things work. Is it just luck of the draw what goes on special? Do the suppliers tell you PH what specials they have or does PH request specials from suppliers?
If a supplier reduces their price or have an influx on a certain product they can sell it at a lower price to PH and thus the specials are born
OK - so it's a lucky packet as to what comes in as a special then.
But what about products that offer great bang for buck without a specially reduced price? Those that just stand out and totally dominate the competition despite costing less than the competition?
Ah, I was asking mainly because of the frame. I've always hesitated looking at any of the "cheap" Sennheiser models because the frames look really rigid and heavily curved/pre-shaped and thus something that would be hell to live with and possibly snap if it's not a perfect fit from the start as opposed to something more conventional looking and flexible like the Skullcandy Hesh for instance or the first Sennheiser set that looks nice and robust yet very flexible and adjustable the Sennheiser HD380.

I still have my Sennheiser HD202 set that I got like 8 years ago and back then I payed like R350 (and with inflation taken in account it would've been more than R500 by now). I've stepped on it on numerous occasions and then the ear cups simply click out (although that does sometime damage the rails in which they slide). The HD202/407 is definitely one of the most durable earphones that I've ever had. They are also very very light compared to other earphones of the same size.
The first thing that will go would be the cable if you don't handle the cable with care (which I didn't do). Eventually, after like 6 years, I went and took off the cable completely and inserted 3.5mm audio sockets in the ear cups. Now whenever I step on the cable the 3.5mm jacks simply spring loose...![]()
John, to be honest, it's a bit of a luck of the draw thing. We can ask, but specials are things that takes time to set up. For example, if a supplier plans on running a special, he usually talks to the importer (if he's not the importer), which talks to the overseas agent/manufacturer, and gets discounts all the way from there. If this doesn't happen, you'll only get a 2 or 4% discount, which is negligible. For a special to be truly worth it, it has to come from the manufacturer.
Another way that a special happens, is when the supplier imports excess stock, and then wants to get rid of the excess (like with the current Sennheiser PC 350, which is nearly 35% lower in price than normally) and the last way is when new products arrive, and both the importer and the manufacturer wants to push sales a bit (such as the EVGA and Club 3D products) - this happens rarely, especially with VGA cards, since usually, stock is limited, and they can sell at the price they want.
If you want a special on something, ask , and I'll see what I can do, but there are no guarantees, I'm afraid.

FS - thanks for the kind offer - this was absolutely not intended as a request from my side though! I was just curious how specials came about - whether it was initiated from your side or from the dealers side. I thought it would be nice to do say a month of specials for say Headphones, then a month of specials on say Speakers - that kind of a thing. But from what everyone has said - these specials are generated at dealer side through whatever conditions are prevailing at the time and not from PH side.
Thanks again for the offer though FS.
Updated. read first post
Ok gents, This product stood out to me from the Prophecy clearance sale.
Prophecy.co.za - Inno3d GTX 465 1GB DDR5 256 bit PCI-E
Its the Inno3D 465GTX
R2278.86
With a OC of 700 on the core this card will be kick ass! 700 on the core would be extremely easy and with a fan profile setup the card wont overheat.
And these:
Corsair 1800 C7 2x 1gb
Prophecy.co.za - Corsair 2x1GB DDR3-1800 CL9, new, lifetime warranty, damaged box
These are extremely good clocking sticks! 1800 C6 possible and 2000mhz C7 or C8. I had a set on my old 775 clocking rig and they were amazing!
BUT they are not made for P55 or X58. You run these on core 2 systems or am3 systems
Attached is a screenie of these running at 1800 C7 at 1.8v on a EP45 Extreme which to be honest sucked at memory clocking.
Ok after going through the price list on PH i couldnt believe what this board goes for!
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Prophecy.co.za - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58 LGA1366 Dual-Channel DDR3 SLI/CrossFireX
It has USB3 and SATA6gbs!
These boards are demons on the OC scene. They handle 980's at over 5.5ghz pretty damn well and it has 3 way SLI and quad CrossFire!
If you are looking at entering the X58 platform i have to recommend this board over the more expensive ones!
With the Gigabyte special running at the moment, that Gigabyte motherboard now costs R150 less than it normally would!
i7 940 | Corsair 6GB DDR3 1600 + AX850W | Asus P6T Deluxe v2 + Xonar DX | 2x MSI Cyclone GTX 460 OC 1GB | CM 692 Advanced
Dell 3008WFP | Logitech MX500 + K350 | Sennheiser HD555
Been a while since i updated.
So this chip REALLY impressed me when i purchased it.
Intel 2500k 3.3ghz Quad Core
Sells for Price: R1991.53 (inc VAT) and it is worth every cent. Clock for clock it beats a 975 in almost every test i have run.
Prophecy.co.za - Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core LGA1155 3.3GHz Boxed Processor (Sandybridge)
VTX3D HD6850 1GB
The price on this card is DAMN good! the performance is above the 560Ti in most cases. Pair this card with any sandy and you will have a monster system.
Price: R1658.56 (inc VAT)
Prophecy.co.za - VTX3D Radeon HD6850 1GB GDDR5 256-bit PCI-E x16
