    ***No Question Too Stupid!***

All you ever wanted to know about Prophecy and the forums.

Joining a new forum can be a little confusing. Everyone tends to do things their own way. Even if you have been around Prophecy a while there may be some thing which confuse you or you wonder about.

This is a thread where no genuine question about Prophecy and the forums is too naive. Fire away and we will do our best to answer it.

There will be no abuse thrown for any question.

However any posts not made in the spirit of the thread will mysteriously disappear!
It is too late to apologise. I have already forgiven you.

By first growing up RO - Toddlers of 3 can't be entrusted to use adult thinking
Beware of your thoughts, because your thoughts become your words. Beware of your words, because your words become your actions.
Beware of your actions because your actions become your habits. Beware of your habits, for they define your character.
And beware of your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Generally by being a solid member of the forums for a while and having an expertise in an area.

We have mods for different forums with different skills and knowledge.

They also tend to be people trusted to look after the best interests of the forums

Firestar and Artagra approve most mods but Admins sometimes help out with obvious candidates. As far as I know only Admins and Core Admins can give Moderator rights.

Wouldn't giving RO mod/admin rights be like the Spanish Catholic Church handing the Golden Tongs of the Inquisition to the Marquis de Sade??

Does a full set of written guidelines exist for the mods to follow? If so are they available for the rest of us to go through?

There are guidelines for Mods and while I will check to see if they are available for public consumption I (personally) cannot see why that would happen.

Is there a specific reason you are interested?

As always I am PM friendly to enquiries which might need a quieter touch.

For a little more info regarding the Mods :

We do have a general guideline that we follow to assist in our daily choices regarding each section. At the same time we are given a fair amount of leeway to make changes at our own discrection.

Hopefully you realise that we try our best to give everyone a platform with which to work and play
Beware of your thoughts, because your thoughts become your words. Beware of your words, because your words become your actions.
Beware of your actions because your actions become your habits. Beware of your habits, for they define your character.
And beware of your character, for it becomes your destiny.

That is a seriously tough job. Classifieds and Coffee Table are notoriously difficult forums to mod.

My reasons are pure curiosity. Personally I think that knowing they exist, and seeing them prehaps a select few of them even (given how people bother to read the rules on the forum I think it is safe to say that you could file your account information and tax details under rules and they will be more secure than in a bank vault; but that is a story for another day.), means that when people feel that a mod is being excessively rude, or is being biased then they can politely be shown to the "guidelines" and come to a fuller understanding.

Would also help the average forumite understand how much work mods contribute to this forum? And let the average user see that they aren't glorified opinion touting loud mouths. -- Not that this is the average opinion, but it does creep up from time to time.

Fair call, although mod abuse is not really the problem it once was.

It is actually about time the mod guidelines were re-evaluated and dusted off a little.

I shall have a look and see if I can release a public version sometime.

No questions about how the name got chosen? How Firestar and Artagra met, fell in love, started a business? What happens when you click the report post button? Where the secret forums filled with scantily clad pics are? Why Prophecy gets abbreviated to PH and not, say, "Pro" instead?
