Let me share the story then and you tell me whether it was worthy of a ban... Bear with me! I am reluctant to post links as I have no desire to give them traffic

So there was/is a thread on MyBB off topic in which a challenge was set to count to 30 consecutively without interruption. This was achieved a few days after the challenge was set but it was dug up by some guys, presumably to increase their post count, so I decided to spoil their fun by interrupting. I posted the following question :

Shortly after this my posts were deleted from the thread. I took exception to this and started a thread questioning why this happened. After all it was an off topic thread and I had as much right to ruin the sequence as others did to count in it. This was what I asked :

The mods have lost the plot. Now we have them moderating a pathetic thread in off topic where people are trying to show off their counting skills. The whole idea was to see how high they could count without interruption. The aim was to reach 50. The mods cleaning the thread of interruptions surely defeats the whole object and is pathetic to say the least. I had an inkling this sort of over zealous moderating would take place so I saved a screen shot!

Mods, this is really becoming pathetic. Would you care to provide reasoning for cleaning this off topic thread? If anything I was on topic. The intention was only to count to 50. Your response will be much appreciated. Perhaps I was an ass-hat (as per the OP) for interrupting but that is my prerogative! Not for the mods to decide.

No doubt a little challenging but surely well within my rights as a long term member and a very active poster?

So, a discussion ensued and I was banned! Ha ha

Seems the mods are a little sensitive on there.

I agree that place is too moderated. here is a reply I posted to a question Lancelot posted a while ago. It also got deleted.


By the way, you were being a tool in that counting thread. You thought you were untouchable because of your high post count and active participation although most of your posts you were being obnoxious just because you got away with it for so long.

Interesting, I see you are a moderator here.

If I may risk a ban on here too, I feel the need to argue your reference to me being a tool in that counting thread. Yes, I deliberately interrupted the sequence but as pointed out by the person who started it, that was the intention. Some will count, some will interrupt. It is not for the mods to ensure the counting sequence is maintained by deleting my posts. Surely?!?

You appear to be familiar with that forum and are active on it. You also appear to have an opinion on my presence on there which is great, however, if you knew me as well as you allude to you would have realised that I posted on numerous occasions that post count means very little. I was particularly vocal about this when "old dogs" belittled "newbies" based purely on their post count. The thought of post count "protecting me" did not once cross my mind. As shown earlier I had no thought of being banned as I felt there was nothing wrong with what I said... the responses of many, including those previously opposed to my views, on that thread were in agreement.

Obnoxius seems to be a very subjective word. I find the views of many others obnoxious but it of course helps that I am opposed to those views.

Indeed you are correct, however, experience has shown that mods on that forum merely ignore PMs. When an issue is raised publicly it is at least brought to the attention of others and often illicits a response from a mod. As pointed out by Crowley earlier questions have been asked on many occasions before about deleting threads and posts but no answers have been forthcoming. Rules are a necessity when it comes to a successful forum, however, it helps if these rules are mentioned to the people who actually use the forum. Transparency is key.
