    Thanks or like?

    Hi Everyone,

Do we keep the thanks buttons, or do we keep the new like/share functions?

I should be able to replace the like's heart icon with something a bit more appropriate.

Also, just to clear things up, the like function on the right hand of this post has nothing to do with facebook likes. It's completely local, and does not auto share to your facebook profile. The share button, on the other hand, shares to your social media website of choice. More options will likely be added there (like Facebook), so that's also an option.

Just as an idea. on one of the Marine aquarium forums I visit often they have 2 buttons. 1 that thanks, and the other "agrees" with what was posted.

    Just an idea.

The reason why I like the "like button" is that it's easy to see which posts in a thread received the most likes and jump directly to that post. However, it might be that many (or all) people doesn't use the forums like that, and simply reads everything from the top down, irrespective of it's popularity amongst the forum regulars.

As a test, I'll be liking a couple of posts in this thread, which will give you an idea (look top right).

Otherwise, if by end of tomorrow, the majority of you guys still want the thanks button rather than the like button, I'll switch off the like button.

0_o I don't think anybody does that. You'd get completely out of context posts aside from the original Topic in most cases. It would be best to read through from the top or at the very least browse where I admit focus would be drawn to the thanked posts but still.

That does sound nice, but it also makes it more likely that in a long thread people will just look at the most liked posts and skip the rest. Then post half baked replies that miss some other points in the thread.

I actually like that "agree" idea.

Keep the thanks and rename "Like" to agree ?

Thing is if you do Thanks and then try to agree it says that the recipient has already been awarded, well at least it did the other day.
