Borderlands 2 announced
woo YEAH!2K Games confirms that work on Borderlands 2 development is under way
Yesterday we reported on a rumour that Gearbox is busy working on Borderlands 2, and that it is planned for release. Today 2K Games has officially confirmed that Borderlands 2 is a real thing.
“Borderlands 2 is headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC during our next fiscal year (which begins on April 1st, 2012),” reads the 2K Blog.
The game will feature “all new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment tucked into new and unexplored areas of Pandora.”
America’s largest games publication, Game Informer, has the scoop, and according to 2K it will publish the first details about the game in its next issue, as well as the first official images.
2K Games is “taking Borderlands on the road”. More specifically, it will be on display at Gamescom from 17 August onwards, and PAX Prime from 26 August. Our own James Etherington-Smith will be attending Gamescom, so I’m sure we’ll have some nice hands-on coverage up in the next few weeks.
Borderlands was one of 2009’s sleeper hits, and did exceptionally well for a new IP. A healthy dose of visual innovation, as well as an interesting mixture between first-person-shooter and RPG-lite gameplay made for a unique experience. It earned a Metacritic score of 84/100, although we thought it was better than that, giving it 92/100. Check out our Borderlands review if you missed the first game.
Borderlands was also one of the games which local distributor Megarom was able to demo at rAge 2009, where it was playable in SA for the first time. Whether or not Borderlands 2 will be playable at this year’s rAge is unclear, as Megarom has not been able to comment.
Unce! Unce! Unce! Unce!
Gearbox has announced a North American launch date for Borderlands 2 in a brand new trailer. If you're even mildly interested in this shoot-looting sequel, you'll want to watch it. It's full of so much Wub Wub. Among the hot dubstep noise, we get to see all four playable characters in action, plenty of gameplay, and some nasty foreshadowing for the evil Handsome Jack. It's understandably gotten me just a little bit damp in my panties. Who else is excited?
WUB WUB!
Can that actually be called music? I mean I've never really liked modern "music" but that sounded more as if the track got stuck somewhere along the line.
I keep wondering whether I should pick up the Borderlands GOTY. I like shooting stuff and I like the graphics BUT I don't like shooting zombies and odd monsters especially ones much bigger than me and as far as I can tell there's plenty of that in the game.

The thing is...guns are guns. Melee weapons and spells in Diablo/any RPG are an entirely different story. And the perspective also changes things, when I'm just a dude on a screen then a zombie or monster is just a zombie or monster, just another victim for my sword or Fireball but from a shooter perspective most stuff is constantly trying to charge me so it's much more in your face and the big monsters just get downright ridiculous. I tolerated it in Bulletstorm cuz that was...well quite crazy and the weapons were very interesting to use but this not so much. And oh yeah add to that the post apocalyptic/desert environment which bores me (I won't even consider FallOut because of that) just seems there's too much counting against Borderlands....but still...
This would be like playing Dibalo or an open world RPG like Skyrim purely as an Archer...and that's just not diverse enough imho.

Err not exactly not in Borderlands anyway you get different types of weapon classes:
Pistols (comprising both Repeater pistols and Revolvers)
Submachine guns
Combat rifles (including full-auto Machine Guns)
Shotguns
Sniper rifles
Rocket launchers
Eridian guns
The guns also cause affects depending on what type of gun it is you can dish out the following damage:
Fire slowly incinerates the target. Human victims will scream while burning. No trace of the victim will remain. Shock makes lightning arc up and down a target's body, eventually leading to the head exploding. Explosive yields a loud bang and reduces the victim completely to giblets. Corrosive rapidly liquefies the target. Human victims will scream while melting. No trace of the victim will remain.
Kindof like the magic spells in RPG's.
You get more than enough classes in Borderlands to keep it fresh:
Mordecai - The Hunter, who has skills that enhance Sniper Rifles and Pistols. He sends his pet Bloodwing to attack enemies from above. The 'Bloodwing' is an AI-controlled aerial unit that will operate semi-independently of the hunter. Sniper tree: improves sniper abilities; Rogue tree: improves special ability; Gunslinger tree: improves pistol and melee abilities.
Roland - The Soldier, who is well suited to using Combat Rifles and Shotguns. He can deploy an automatic Scorpio Turret to attack enemies, which operates independently, allowing the soldier to hide behind cover or attack enemies while his turret attacks enemies. Infantry tree: increases effectiveness with weapons particularly combat rifles and shotguns; Support tree: increase Roland's defensive abilities with shields, and improve his Scorpio Turret's cooldown, increase its burst fire count and allow his turret to support the Soldier and his teammates by constantly resupplying their ordnance; Medic tree: abilities that allow the Soldier to rapidly replenish his health and his allies' even in the midst of heavy comb
Lilith - The Siren, who has advantages using SMGs and Elemental weapons. Touched by ancient alien power, her ability is 'Phasewalk': She can shift into a different dimension and become invisible for a few seconds, and when she enters or exits that state she releases a shockwave of energy which damages nearby enemies. Controller tree: improves survivability and disables foes; Elemental tree: improves her ability to use weapons and inflict Elemental damage; Assassin tree: increases lethality with weaponry and melee combat.
Brick - The Berserker, who loves to do nothing more than pound enemies with his fists. Other than that, is a master of blasting his foes with explosive heavy weapons. His ability is 'Berserk', in which he uses his fists to pound his enemies to death, and gains large increases to his survivability and speed to achieve that end. Brawler tree: increases melee damage capabilities; Tank tree: massively increases toughness and survivability; Blaster: improves explosive damage and abilities with weaponry, especially Rocket Launchers.
Hmm. If it's still there next time I go game shopping (likely to be a fair bit later in the year so that's doubtful) I'll pick it up.
Not that I like playing as a chick but Lilith sounds like a play-style that could make the game work for me. I usually prefer the guns blazing approach but that's likely to get me too much attention in an open world game like this.

Not really, AI's pretty much the same regardless of what class you're playing. Also, don't expect open world with rich quests and story - it's very blatantly arcade and doesn't try to hide it. There is strategy in terms of what loadouts and upgrades you choose (very light RPG), but it's pretty straightforward.
In my experience I can say I never would have played it if it weren't for co-op. Have never touched it solo. So keep that in mind.
All your tree are belong to me.
Hmm thanks for the tip. I guess I'll avoid it as originally planned then. I wasn't expecting a world that rich, maybe something like FarCry2/JustCause2 but with crazy graphics and monsters, some RPG elements, loot and a few sidequests. But yeah the game just doesn't seem up my alley, pity but o well.

If only I had the bandwidth to get the demo but sadly I don't. Checked a few gameplay vids but those never seem up my alley since they're always either with some oversized monster and those things bug me, or with some jumpy thing and those things bug me even more. What I can't get from either the gameplay vids or a demo even if I could get it is how the monsters are balanced, I mean is it all just one mob (like the WRPG Skeletons) and then a few bosses or would every area have something distinctly different...and if everything's different then what sort of percentage of that would I like fighting and what would turn me off the game. Perhaps I should check a wiki for the bestiary.

Had a look at the bestiary and bosses (effectively spoilering the game but o well) and whilst all the humans and the guardians and cybernetics seem cool I really don't want to fight the rest of the normal creatures so this just isn't the game for me.
