Syndicate Returns! (Yes, for realsies! Apparently! :))

Syndicate is the re-imagination of a cult classic franchise from 1993 - a unique action shooter set in a not too distant future, where Business is War.
2069 – No longer governed by politicians, the developed world is divided up into regions controlled by megacorporations known as Syndicates. These Syndicates have revolutionized how the consumer interacts with the digital world. No longer does the consumer require a device to access the world's data and control their technology, they can do this at the blink of an eye via neural chip implant. Civilians flocked to be chipped and enjoy all that their selected Syndicate has to offer; housing, medical, banking, insurance, education, entertainment and jobs. One complete package. One complete lifestyle. In return, the Syndicates gained unprecedented insights, and control, over the individual and their behaviour. With little governmental oversight, business has become war.

    [...]

Take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp's latest prototype agent, and embark on a brutal action adventure of corruption and revenge.

    • Chip Enhanced Gameplay: Slow down time, see through walls, and breach your enemy and everything digital in the world with Dart vision – A neural DART6 chip implant that allows you to interface directly with the Dataverse.

    • 4-Player Online Co-op: Assemble your Syndicate for global domination. A 4-player, online co-op experience like no other, with chip enhanced gameplay and 9 missions re-imagined from the original Syndicate.

    • Visceral FPS Experience: Utilize an upgradable arsenal of futuristic weapons, armor and gear to annihilate your enemies and harvest their chip technology for personal advancement and sinister corporate greed.

    • Sci-Fi Fiction: Immerse yourself in the world of Syndicate 2069, with a world-class sci-fi story experience, written by bestselling author Richard Morgan.
The Syndicate Reboot Is Real, First Details & Screens Leak Out of EA

Deus Ex Human Revolution anyone? I mean seriously!? But in a good way!

Those screens look GREAT regardless of how similar they are to DXHR, and man, I love DXHR so much I would gobble this up! And 4-player co-op? Hells yeah!

Just hope it's coming to consoles.

But my life is not yet complete - not until EA revives System Shock. COME ON EA WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR SYSTEM SHOCK 3!!!

But I don't want it to be an FPS

Look, you've got a point - I'd love to play it classic style, but then remember what a disappointment Syndicate Wars was for most people? I have to admit that I enjoyed it, but as I recall most people hated it.

The other thing is you're operating on memory and sentiment, and it's very rare these days that developers can do justice to either of those factors. If they DID go the traditional route, you've have JUST as many people complaining that it's 'not as good as the original' as you have people complaining that it's a FPS now.

I for one would love to see a FPS in the vein of DXHR, but deeper - allowing you to stare at tech tree screens for hours on end, deciding which missions to take, milling over secondary objectives versus primary ones, etc.

All I'm saying is let's give it a chance before shooting it down. And I guess I really love good FPS titles, and despite so many being released, there have been few truly great ones this generation.

Mass Effect now with less space and aliens.

At least that's what I think when I look at the screens.

Yes. This uses too many colours for it to remind me of Deus Ex...then again I've yet to play the game and am only going by trailers, but the game is very 3-tone from what I've seen in them. This is closer to Mass Effect's colour scheme.

Jeez - I dunno, have a look at some of the high-res ones and tell me that again.

First Screenshots, Official Info From the New Syndicate

Also, Starbreeze (Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness) is developing, so colour me excited - they've always done rather exciting and inspired things with the FPS genre, so I'd love to see them go to town with a truly deep property with a lot of cool angles and elements to exploit...

    Plus - 4-player co-op? Oh yeah!

It certainly puts a new spin on the Game world and I truly hope that they are able to immerse us in the world as they had been able to in the past.

The fact that they are moving away from the 3rd person top down view we were used to is a little sad, I truly loved this game. The screenshots do look very good thus far and the co-op if implemented well is going to be the big attraction for me.

It pains me to say that it actually does, but that's just cos I REALLY rate Deus Ex as one of the definitive games of this generation. That said, bring on Syndicate!

If it was a Third Person I could maybe get excited about it, but yet another FPS...bleh.

Yeah, well if you'd been playing Bulletstorm I'd understand what you say that. As if the third person shooter genre isn't over-saturated with about as much crap as the FPS genre.

It's not about shooting it down.

I just think third person makes more sense for a slower paced game, which I expect Syndicate to be.

But thinking more on it, a top down RPG style would be even more suited. Diablo with Sci-Fi.
