Upgraded to VIP in the end. The options on the free account was too limited to actually create some cool combos.

Busy downloading Fallout: New Vegas and all it's DLC so I won't be on for a while. Once that's done though it's on!

You can access capes at the start in one of two ways:

    1. Either buy them from the shop
    2. Or get them at level 20 after doing a mission.

Before going F2P, the only way you could get a cape was the level 20 mission. It was a right of passage, if you will, in the past. The same applies for auras, these you get after level 30 or if you buy them.
Certain capes are also accessable at the start from veteran rewards.
Was it you that asked in the help channel last night about capes? If so, I sent you a reply ;-)

What is your global handle or your villain's name?

Generally speaking the villain side stories are much more colourful, even though the scenery is not.

Tried it out bit last night. The only thing that puts me off is the slow combat speed. Especially with your 2 - 3 abilities at the start the cooldowns seem to take forever.

Yeah, its classic MMO, the beginning has few powers to use. You can mitigate this by taking Hasten at level 4 and clicking it whenever you need a 2x recharge boost for a while. You can also slot your powers with recharge. What arctype (character class) did you roll up?

If you like playing with pets in MMOs then you must try out a Mastermind. The mastermind pet system in CoH is the best I have seen in any MMO. You can tell your pets to move to a location, defend, attack, aggressive/passive etc, all in one go. They are also the best soloists in the game and bring a lot to a group through support and DPS.

Street Justice is now purchasable. Contemplating buying it and playing a new brute on Exalted, all my Onion slots are full.

Street Justice is a very unique new powerset for melee. It is actually very enjoyable and tactical, as you now have choices for combat and you are not just pushing buttons to drop mobs to the floor. Me and CoX will be holding hands all the way to when my SWTOR client arrives.

We tried CoX again last night and found it just too slow. :/ Going back to our Champs i suppose.

I wish they had the same level of customization in Champs. Only 78 days to go

I must say, level 1 to 20 is very tough if you're not into traditional MMO's.
But from 20 onward it is a different game. Fundamentally it's what you make of it. What I think most of us who are vets forget is that the newbies don't have access to all the right channels, people and connections that truly make this game have the best community around.

You need to get onto sals badgehunters channel where you'll find all your taskforce and badge hunting needs.
You need to get on Union Chat, Union Task Force and other channels.

Anyway, newbs that join must reach out to a vet and just let us help you out a little. If you go it alone, then CoH is a boring lonely place, and I highly recommend Dragon Age 2 or even Mass Effect for your solo RPG needs

I second that. The most amazing thing about CoH that I have said before, is the ability to group up or down the level scale with anyone. I would be very happy to group up with you to have some small group fun. I find a group of 2-3 people is just perfect and a good challenge. It also points out how this game is not holy trinity dependent and each person brings skills to the group that they have to rely on to survive. If I grouped up with a character that is (for example) level 5 with my level 40, I would get the same amount of XP as I would get than I would get if I was grouped with another level 40. The game makes all the skills I got after level 5 unavailable and I have to rely on the skills I do have in the group with you. It provides a unique challenge and is good fun.

So bring whoever with you, give me a night and time and we can get together and run your story missions.

I see, so its basically just champs with a slower combat system and older graphics.

And a lot less bandwidth usage (perk for me) and a much better pet system, but I get your point ;-)

Saying CoH is like CO but with worse graphics and slower combat is like saying Bryce Lawrence is a "professional" referee... while technically correct, there is a lot more to the story.

Ok, since this is the only big hit MMO i haven't played from bottom to top, i'm now playing this while i wait for Guild Wars or Secret World. Anyone still playing?

I rolled on Union , still playing different chars will see what sticks...so far the Crab Soldier is bringing a good combination of "all rounder" so it very well might stick for the time being.

I tried free initially, but the cost of points to unlock the stuff i want to play vs. subbing and simply getting it.....

On a totally random note, travel powers? Which are considered the most useful? Flight?

super jump is fun fly is slower but more safe, teleport is a chore to use without binds and super speed is a pain especially in places like boom town, steel canyon or rikti war zone

    Play games, not platforms

Cool, so flying it is . I like to chill around and make coffee in the middle of my gameplay, flight seems to be that escape
