Launch Date Announced

BioWare and LucasArts are pleased to announce that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ will launch on December 20, 2011 in North America and on December 22, 2011 in the European Launch Territories! The announcement was first made by BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk during their keynote address at the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London, England. Speaking to a packed room of press and fans alike, Dr. Muzyka acknowledged the weight of the moment and the patience of the fans.

“This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at LucasArts who have dedicated their lives to build this extraordinary game. We appreciate the patience from the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release.”

Each copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic will come with 30 days of subscription time, after which you have the option to continue playing with one of the following monthly subscription fees:

1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99)
3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97)
6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94)

Hopefully the client will be available for download well before xmas. I am hoping for someone in DBN/PMB to download it and I come copy it. I will even pay for some of their bandwidth.

Whats the best way to get this in South Africa?
I'd really like to give this a go but I like having a box in my hand so the whole digital download thing is a last resort.

BTW some of the guys in my guild (WoW) has been on the weekend beta test and consider leaving WoW for this so it MUST be good!

Got my key from offgamers. Never had issues with them in the 3 years ive been buying keys from them.

Good news everybody! It seems that next weekend the 25th of November, everyone that signed up for beta access before the 11th of November 2011 will get a beta key for the big stress test. There are also a lot of gaming sites giving away beta keys for those that didn't sign up before or on the 11th.

I'm quite keen about this, but I do hope they send the e-mails early enough so that I can have a head start on the download.

My only concern is that you might have to download the client twice. One for the beta and a new one for the headstart if they decide not to patch the beta client up to retail.

Agreed there. As soon as there is confirmation that a beta (x) version will be used for headstart after a patch, the race for a client is on. Some MMOs have done that and some in recent times (RIFT being one of them) have not. Personally, after STO and Champs beta I made myself a promise never to play a MMO beta again. It just spoils the game for me and shortens the lifespan for me. All you really get is the bragging rights like: "Remember in beta, you could blah blah....".

Downloading a beta client of 20+ gig for a weekend of lag seems like a waste to me.

Reavs, that might well be the case. As far as I understand, those people who were chosen for weekend betas had to re-download the client everytime. But it's ok, if I have to re-download it for the early access then so be it. Just as long as they give us a reasonable amount of time to download it before the early access starting date.

Yeah up to last weekend they had to redownload but the devs stated they might just keep patching the next client instead of deploying a whole new client. So i'm waiting for feedback on that.

You may have to re-download the game client, but we are hopeful you will not have to. This will be confirmed after the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend.
