    Thumbs down

    Hi Everyone,

I need 10 guys to do some user testing for me on the shop site.

    Requirements:

    1. Windows PC - XP or higher - you'll need to install some software to do this. It will be given to you
    2. I need an email address from you and your real name and surname
    3. I need you to be computer and internet literal
    4. I need you to have assembled your own PC at some point in the past
    5. You will need a microphone and not be shy to speak into it
    6. You need to be able to spend about 1 hour of your time on this
    7. Broadband (I'll say at least 512kb line)
    8. You will need to confidently verbalise your thoughts in English

The test will comprise of performing a series of tasks (which will take about 20 - 30 minutes, max) while using the software to record your screen and your voice. You will need to speak every thought about our site that comes to mind, and explain what you do, and why you're doing it throughout the screencast. After this, you will need to summarise your screencast by answering a couple of questions about your experience, and that will be it. At this point, we'll review your video and summary and email you the R200 voucher for use on your next order.

You do not have to be a shop customer to do this. The tests will likely be done 2 to 3 weeks from now, depending on how quickly we get 10 people, and how long it takes to get the testing set up by the company we make use of.

Please ask any questions here. Please also nominate yourself, and state your computer/internet/hardware experience.

Fire, I would like to help, but just need to understand if this will happen at a speficic date and time, or any free hour you can find. My weeks are hecticly full, so I might have to do it over a weekend.

I'll be happy to join in.

I have the required PC and broadband.

Worked as a techy so I know hardware well enough and my current system is hand built.

Working now as an enterprise web developer with loads of QA and User experience testing, analysis and development under my belt.

    Well versed in webex also.

If the requirement is that it be done on days X,Y,Z then I'll be keen. Like Gamos my schedule is set in stone so I can use certain hours during the day for this.
~ Without a framework working in GWT is like have making love the first time .. nobody knows how to do it right, but every one is still having fun ~

You'll be free to do the tests over a week long period, I think. It's not a set date/time.

You don't have to give your email address and real name in this thread, but if you are interested, and have signed up, please subscribe to this post with immediate email notification, so that you don't get left out when it eventually happens. I'll tell you guys when I need the email addresses and then you can PM them to me.

    Ok, we need 4 more.

@elixx, I'll keep you as backup. If I can get 512k line people then I rather want them. If this doesn't work, it's going to cost me a lot of money for no results. If I cannot find 10 x 512k people, I'll try with you, ok?

Forgot to ask, but what are we actually going to be doing/what is it for? Or would you rather tell us closer to the time? I have a 4mb line if someone near linksfield is desperate to do it too.

It's a useability test of our website. Just general user testing to see how user friendly our site is and to get ideas of what we want to change on the site...

Nice idea Firestar but I don't see how even a 512kbps line will help, especially considering that most are probably capped unless everyone here jumped over to MWeb in a heartbeat when they announced uncapped. Most screen recorders push out a file that even with some re-coding will still be a pretty big burden on anyone with any sort of cap or connection below say 2MB...especially with the intermittent disconnections that seem to be plaguing a bunch of people (including me) recently.

Anyways I aint up for it due to both the cap and and the fact I don't think the way I think you want people to think (XD) plus my components were selected by me but not assembled by me so I don't think I've got that requirement either so I basically just have the line (well with cap though) but I can give you an instant tip. Default Arrange by price.

The first thing I always do (or if not the first then the 2nd where the first tends to be filtering out the brand I want) is change the arrangement to go from lowest to highest price and having to always do that is probably also my biggest and pretty much only problem with the current site especially seeing as the current default order seems to not have any sort of pattern (or at least not one logical to consumers)
    Intel Core2Quad Q9550 (2.83Ghz (stock)), ASUS P5Q, ASUS ENGTX260/HDTP/896M, Transcend JetRam DDR2-800 2x2GB, 2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB, Gigabyte Odin 720W, Gigabyte G-Power 2 Pro CPU cooler,
CoolerMaster Ammo 533, Leadtek Winfast DTV2000H, Cyber Snipa Stinger lazer gaming mouse, Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 Headset, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64bit

They state broadband, although that could mean a lot of things. I'm taking a chance on 512, and hoping for the best.

I think you have the skills. It's not really about building the machine, as it is about knowing the hardware.

I'd love to get your input. You always have a fresh way of thinking about stuff. If you can manage, I'd love you to be one of the 10.

I'll immediately make a note of the price sorting. It's currently sorted alphabetically by name. However, we've got a bunch of changes coming due to the feedback on our first batch of user testing done a couple of weeks ago. I'd like to get the largest part of these done before we start with you guys, as I don't want you guys to focus on the same problems that we already know about.
