Flat rated smartphone data bundles from MTN « Cellular « MyBroadband Tech and IT News

MTN is launching smartphone data packages which will rival uncapped BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) offerings
if done right this could spell the end of RIM's strangle hold on smartphones in the country

looks like i might just go back to Nokia next year. better battery life!

75Mb? That's not going to go a hell of a long way.

I did 100Mb on my BB every month since I started logging it...that's without browsing and without any special Apps. RIM also compresses most of their data use.

    Just Email & Twitter really.

iPhone has used 20Mb of the 500Mb Data Bundle since the 1st of Feb...that's while being on Wifi at home & the office.

About your battery comment...don't you have plugs at home?

Strange, I always got at least two days out of mine.

Any phone that I can charge the night before, and gets me through a full heavy day without dying and still has 10% left by the time I plug it in again is good enough for me.

Just don't go dying midway through the day.

I am still a bit cautious about these deals, they don't seem suited towards someone like me, I expect anything between 200-1000mb per month on my phone. Then again it does seem these packages are geared towards low usage users. At least that is what the name "entry level" means to me.

If it's 75MB per month, that deal is no more than an insult really.

data and sms are the milk cows of the mobile industry. look at the huge profits they make. billions, not millions. and government likes billions as its lots of taxes to keep the gravy train en route. a sms costs about a cent each, yet we pay 80 - 85 cents in prime time.they make thousands of rands from a meg or two.

vodacom is apparently putting restrictions on their BIS use, you pay for Mixit, Whatsapp etc already. and Youtube if you dont use the BIS browser.

The year 2012 should not have anything less than 1Gb data bundles on any device.

    Nuff said.

So somewhat disappointingly, but not totally unexpected, MTN's latest deal is nothing more than a pitiful data bundle that they reckon can last for a month :

lol, anyone with apps on there phone will use many times this bandwidth in a few days easily, Its sad to see that MTN is always trying to dupe the clients with these poor offers, Like the "Uncapped" with a 3gb fair useage limit...
