Hi Everyone,
I’ve been advised to join this and other local forums, since my ridiculously vast array of issues with this new build could find some help, or at least be of some comic relief...
So aaanyway. Bought most of the components in Jan/Feb 2011 from three of our best online retailers and have since gone through:
2 x Asus P8P67 PRO (B3) Mobos
2 x Intel 2500k
2 x Cases (Coolermaster CM 690 & Corsair 650D)
2 x PSUs (Corsair 750TX 80 Plus Bronze & Corsair AX750 80 Plus Gold)
5 x 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM sets, 4GB x 2 of Corsair XMS3, G.Skill Ripjaws X, G.Skill Sniper low voltage
Countless HDDs and VGA’s (Currently on a Caviar Black 1TB and Gainward GTX570 PHANTOM)
NO OC
Most of the issues were memory related, I’d put in a pair of sticks, they’d work fine for about a week, then things would go pear. BSODs, Freezes, Boot issues, you name it. I’d RMA the RAM, put in the new chips and it’d take a week or less before the cycle would start again. I’ve now tried different pairs of 3 different types of RAM, as listed above. The RAM would seem to degrade over a short period until eventually the PC would go from absolute rock solid to as flaky as a BSOD when idle… I’ve RMA’d the mobo and CPU as well. I’ve changed cases, thinking there might be a ‘short’ somewhere. I’ve changed PSUs, thinking a rail might have signal noise etc… I’ve changed small peripherals (mice, keyboard etc) for fear of a ‘short’. Same with case fans, HDDs, VGAs, you name it. I’ve added surge protection plugs. I’ve had an electrician look at my power outlets…
The latest involved going from the Corsair TX750 PSU to the Corsair AX750 PSU and from G.SKILL RIPJAWS X 1600 1.5v to G.SKILL SNIPER 1600 1.25v
The latest error is the red cpu led issue all over the web. I have to go through the CMOS clear jumper exercise on EVERY boot up, restart. Can only shut down via wall plug or PSU switch.
Skyrim in a week and I can’t do anything without a BSOD. FML.
Any ideas?
I would take it straight to Asus Sandton and get them to do a test of their own. They should have enough spare equipment and spare boards to do a complete test.
Maybe you should try Corsair Vengeance - Stefan and I have never had issues with them. He's also using a similiar Asus motherboard - no issues. I'm using an Asus P8H61-M LX which doesn't really run my 1600mhz memory module at 1600, it is reduced to 1333 but performance-wise, never had issues at all.
Have you ever tried running MemTest on all of the modules you have? You could have probably got 2 dux mobo's in a row. What is your current location and who did you buy all of your hardware from?
I would even try get a different brand P67 mobo and test all of your parts with that, then post it if needs be. Asus will sort you out 100%. They always do.
Speak to Alex.
Thanks everyone!
Gonna try a bios update to the latest beta, and hopefully get the board RMA'd next week. I'm in CPT, so have to do it via the retailer I used. Would REALLY prefer a credit though, have had it with ASUS.
I'm a bit hesitant to blame the memory, even though changing these have given me windows of functionality.
For the record, 2 sets of Corsair XMS3, 2 sets of GSKILL RIPJAWS X and 1 set of GSKILL SNIPER can't all be to blame. Especially since so many users are happily using either of these without error or issue...
Just to defend Gskill.
I had Two Asus P8P67 EVO die on me and take the CPU with it with-in the first week of each one running and it was suspected that the Gskill RAM was the problem. My third new board has now been running smoothly for a while now with the same 4 x 4GB of Gskill Sniper ram running at 1866 @ 1.5V and i changed nothing other then the Motherboard and CPU. The Ram was not RMA'ed so the RAM could not have been at fault and I did find three other people who had the same experience with different RAM manufactures. I would send the board back if the Bios update doesn't sort it out.
Maybe you just got a dud like I did, It happens and luckily ASUS have a really great after sales support system.
Intel i7 2600K @ 4.0Ghz+HT/Asus P8P67 EVO/G-Skill 4x4 gig DDR 1866 Sniper/Inno3d 480 GTX SLI/Corsair HX1000 Watt/CM Haf 932 /Corsair 256Gb SSD
If the RipJaws were working why did you switch to the Snipers?
Intel Core2Quad Q9550 (2.83Ghz (stock)), ASUS P5Q, ASUS ENGTX260/HDTP/896M, Transcend JetRam DDR2-800 2x2GB, 2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB, Gigabyte Odin 720W, Gigabyte G-Power 2 Pro CPU cooler,CoolerMaster Ammo 533, Leadtek Winfast DTV2000H, Cyber Snipa Stinger lazer gaming mouse, Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 Headset, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64bit

Have you had any other electronics go? Maybe too much noise on your power or voltage too low?
Drop this in after your plug outlet: http://www.prophecy.co.za/liner-le12...r-p-22580.html

+1 for what Razer said get a UPS and/or 2-in-1 Voltage regulator something like that. Might be that you are not getting stable power.
Are you running an aftermarket Cooler? (Just a Question) and which one?
Have you run the RAM at 1333 for a week?
Have you tried a BIOS update?
I remember that a Asus P8P67 Evo had this issue and other Asus Boards as well, on all RAM running above 1333.
Sorry but this is the exact reason I do not Buy Asus Motherboards.
Because of Eskom?
I usually buy Asus boards I just don't have the budget for one right now. The only issues I've had with them was with the Nvidia chipset range (P5N32-E SLi and P5NT-Deluxe) which were shocking and the stock drivers caused it to BSOD but that was the fault of the chipset rather than the motherboard.
I could go with the power issue. You might be in a bad area. Have you monitored the voltages in the BIOS?
I realise the link was old, everyone is really just clutching at straws here mate so I figured why not.
Scratch that last post.
I've again had multiple issues again and I've tried multiple fixes, but I keep on getting corrupted files and BSODs. I've tested everything (I mean everything, I'm actually very good at troubleshooting systems) and it seems to be my motherboard.
So come Monday I'll RMA my motherboard. It just sucks that I won't be able to play BF3 for a few days.![]()
I've read enough. I've also had numerous issues with ASUS mobo's, but I was starting to think that is a thing of the past.
Seems not then.
I'm running a 2600k and a asus board - not a problem from day 1 :P
So I suppose it can be done
