    Exclamation ASUS GTX580 - Preview

    ASUS GTX580

    Right down to it.
    You know what it does and how it does it. Its cooler faster, clocks better scales better than original GF100. Its same 3BN gates as before so nothing in the core changed, just more of it works well... better. Asus Card comes overclocked by 10MHz, (782MHz) Heaven knows why you'd OC 10MHz, but anyway it's free. As with all NVIDIA DX11 parts, not all samples are the same so some operate at 1.0V others 1.06V etc.. You can't know what you'll get until you measure it.

    This particular sample was 1.06V default

    First impressions:
    This card is fast, much faster than I would have thought. This is especially for 3DMark Vantage. As you'll see the results against the GTX480 on the same system are truly amazing.
    *Do note though that 262.99 drivers are really good and add come performance, regardless, the GTX580 is a monster and many records will fall this holiday season because of it.

    Test System
    =========
    Intel Core i7 980X (@ 3.6GHz)
    3x2GB Corsair Dominator GT 1600MHz CL9
    Kingston SSD+ Now 128GB
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Forceware 26.99 WHQL

    3DMark Vantage:
    =============
    GTX480: 21,048
    GTX580: 26,531

    3DMark06 (This is a CPU benchmark really :/)
    ============
    GTX480: 24,999
    GTX580: 25,195

    Crysis: Warhead (64-bit enthusiast 1920x1080 0xAA)
    ============
    GTX480: 82.04
    GTX580: 91.99

    Stone Giant: (1920x1080, High Tessellation)
    ============
    GTX480: 75
    GTX580: 85

    Card Oc's great this. Particular one isn't the best maxing out at about 930MHz @ 1.15V but still, allot more than what GTX480 would do on air. At that speed 3DMark Vantage is just on 30,000 points

    Looking to buy something for holiday season, get this card (get any GTX580, but may as well make it the ASUS since it does come with a phantom overclock )

    Check it out in full detail- TOC November 2010 Issue 12 (out on the 30th)
