Broken Graphics card
Hi
I bought a club 3d 5850 from prophecy over a year ago. Two months ago the fan started making grinding noises so i opened the cooler and modified the fan to lubricate the fan bearing. so for 2 months the card has been running silent without a problem until yesterday. Yesterday my pc would not post when the card was installed in the primary slot and the pc would hang at startup if the card was used in the secondary slot in my crossfire setup. I would like to have it looked at but am I correct in saying that by modifying the fan the warranty is now void? Is it still possible to get the card looked at if it is out of warranty? What costs are involved to get it looked at and possibly repaired?

Hi Vince,
I've moved the thread to the Club forum, and they club guys will have to make the call about the warranty. My guess is that they'll need to see the product first, but in general, if any modification has been done to the card in a permanent manner, the cards' warranty is indeed void.
One of your only options now, is to buy an aftermarket cooler. However, wait first for them to get back to you before you do that. They'll probably respond on Monday morning.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Before I say anything along the lines of the warranty being void I would be more than happy to have a look at the card for you,
You are welcome to send it in to prophecy and we will see what we can do once the card comes in
