    GA-P67A-UD4-B3 boot issues

Having a problem with this board of mine. If I switch it off for half an hour or so and try to switch it back on it's dead and doesn't go on at all. I then have to unplug the cord from the PSU for 5 minutes or so then plug it back in and it boots up fine.

Same thing happens at random times if I change something in the BIOS, save and exit.

I've taken the board to Rectron twice now and it worked fine there :/. Even took my own PSU, RAM, CPU, HDD and mem for them to test it.

Any idea what the issue could be? I've tried the F3 and F4 BIOS'

It's NOT my PSU or CPU.

    Rest of the specs are
    2600K
    2x2GB 2200 CL8
    750w Antec
    8800GT

Have you got proper grounding for the chassis?
What chassis do you have? Clear perspex?

Since you've tested everything else I can only presume it's your chassis.

I have a test bench. Not a chassis.

Tested it on a piece of cardboard as well and still get the same problem. It only happens if leave it in the off state for more than ~10-30 minutes with the PSU still plugged into the wall.

Sometimes if I reboot it constantly (Like OC it...) then it "locks up" again and needs to be unplugged for a few minutes.

Sucks because I cant use Sleep mode as it has to be turned off at the wall socket everytime.

It's not OS related either, happens in both XP and 7 (Hibernate/Shutdown).

Did Rectron or you change the CMOS battery?

Nope. It still has the original battery it came with.

Clearing CMOS doesn't make it boot up again though. The charge that's "leftover" it in has to discharge first then it boots up.

Then change the battery and see what happens.

I see that's a B3 stepping board. I think you'll need to find a gigabyte representative to contact and tell them your problem - they might be able to help you out. You shouldn't have to have these issues on a new board... After all the testing you've done, I can tell you something's not right there. I can honestly tell you - sometimes Rectron can be useless - last time I send my board in due to heating issues and they tested it, said it was fine and returned it. In March, my board started failing so I got it swapped out after a month.

EDIT: Take a google - it's apparently a problem board. What brand / voltage is are memory modules? I remember Sandybridge doesn't like more than 1.5v and I use a Corsair Vengeance which works very well.

Useless they are as I've found.

I've been using the board for the past two months and it was fine, I didn't experience the cold boot issues some people were having but since last week it's been a PITA.

When my board doesn't go on it's pretty much "dead", no lights come on or fans spin. I have a buzzer connected to it as well and if I remove the RAM and try to switch it on it's still in the stale state, no beeps come from the buzzer. Normally in soft off mode my USB devices still receive some power (lights come on when you press a key on the keyboard, click the mouse, bluetooth dongle flashes etc) but when it refuses to boot none of them light up.

Maybe I should take it back and tell them to leave it plugged in overnight and try booting it up the next morning? Previous times I went in they just switched it on and off to try and replicate the issue but they didn't leave it in soft off mode for a long period. They're probably sick of me now xD

Eish, that doesn't sound really good at all. Try get in contact with Gigabyte and talk to someone there - you never know what they can do for you until you give them a call or e-mail.

    Hi Chickenbeef,

I have escallated the matter onto Gigabyte and my contact there will ask their technicians to help out. Have you tested the motherboard with another graphics card?

Yes, I've tried my old 6200 and it made no difference.
