doesn't bother me.
other folks well yeah good luck
Eish good luck fellows I really feel for ya.Bioware’s Chris Priestly has confirmed on the firm’s forum that Mass Effect 3 on PC will, as suspected, require Origin and will not “initially” be made available on Steam.“Origin is required for all PC editions of Mass Effect 3, physical or digital,” wrote Priestly in a post regarding frequently asked questions. “Mass Effect 3 will require a one time, single authorization for the single player game. There is no limit to the number of installs. Playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will require a constant connection.”
He goes on to say that during the game’s “initial release” it will be made available through other digital PC retailers, but not on Steam due to “a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content.”
“We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers,” said Priestly.
Wasn't really looking forward to ME3 now I definitely wont buy it at release.

What's the big deal? It's a once off activation? If they sold it initially on Steam, it would be the exact same thing, activation on steam?
I'm not quite sure what the real issue here is though, is it because people want to use Steam ? Installing Origin for a month while playing the game doesn't sound like a dealbreaker to me (as opposed to using Steam for the same purpose) . I don't see anyone boycotting Blizzard about the Battle.NET requirement for Starcraft and Diablo...
The problem is Battle.Net worked and I really dont have too many issues with Steam. I like there layout, i like how it looks, it just works. Yes i will admit it does have the occasional glitch
But the sh** that is origin is just horrible, im sure every Battlefield 3 player can say that they have had issues with origin. It is *** to start off with
Yeah had issues with origin from day one. In the start it would "forget" you already have the game already installed and then try to download it while overwriting your current installation. Still dont have the BF3 xpac because it keeps failing around 90% and then restarts the download. Wasted too much bandwidth and time on that pos.
"It's simply shady business practice that bugs most of us. Origin's main competition is Steam, and the best way they could find to compete with Steam to pull it from Steam shelves, while pretending to be helping the consumer by providing a service Steam wouldn't allow, namely their ability to "interact with consumers to supply patches"."
It is because Origin is such an unreliable piece of crap and hardly works properly most of the time you are going to need a once off for the single player but a constant one for multiplayer (Good luck with that), also you got to wonder if EA isn't pushing their own agenda, they also removed Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 from steam. Also the clauses in Origin seems a bit flacky:
“Consent to Collection and Use of Data”, the clause states that by installing Origin you are giving EA permission to “collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer, operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware.”

Larch, you honestly speak as if you have first hand experience on the topic. Have you encountered any trouble with the service yourself, or are you just "loosely quoting" other disgruntled users?
I never had an issue with Origin. I've had issues with BF3 but Origin has always started up and been ok to use. I'm not sure why people are saying they have issues with Origin.
Well duh! Of course EA is pushing their own agenda, EA is a publisher...publishers sells games. Obviously they are going to try to sell "their" games using "their" channels. Blizzard did the same thing, try buying a Blizzard game on Steam... It's a matter of time before Blizzard's evil half, Activision also wakes up and pulls "their" games off Steam too and move it over to the very same Blizzard store...
Anyway, it's the future, publishers has been slow with the digital sales and Steam took the gap, but now they are catching up and they're obviously not going to hand their cash over to Valve for doing what is technically a publisher's "job" in the first place.
So i won't be surprised to see things change more and more. Steam most likely hosting indie/small developer games and the big games moving back to the publisher stores, even Ubisoft got their own thing going, including their whole activation and all (also a matter of time before they pull a few exclusives from Steam)
Not first hand experience as per se, but I helped out one or two people who were less tech savy and where thinking they were doing something wrong so they asked me for help so after 3-4 hours of getting one account to work (almost suffered from PC induced rage) and another that did work but refused to download any content or got stuck @ 50%. Which makes me wonder why move to a new platform when you have a pre-existing one that works and has been tried and tested. Surely you are going to be loosing sales over this? I think they are pushing their own agenda and their own platform hence they removed all their titles from steam they were just looking for a good excuse which they found.

Well wont it be better and more efficient to have one service like steam that does it all? Now you have 13 difference service you need to log into when playing different games. Surely from a developers and sellers perspective it will make financial and administrative sense.
