Maybe I am just used to the fact that when I use programs on my laptop I generally have one app that does a set of things instead of having 4 different programs doing the exact same things but differently.
You don't buy Origin, it's a free platform that people use to download games. Like Steam. As for pulling games and blaming Steam, EA are correct in that their games that get sold on Steam cannot get DLC from Origin(at least that's how I understand it), so yes I can see why they pulled their new games from Steam.

This isn't news at all. I could have told you this when I first heard of origin.
I don't mind origin at all, install it in like 2 seconds on my shitty pc, and I've had no issues with it. The issues that I did have was BF3 itself.
2 things to keep in mind :
- The future is digital distribution, owning a hard copy is already somewhat of a formality or collecting hobby. Therefore it is rather inevitable that eventually a competitor for steam will come along, and probably more in the future.
- Downloading a 3GB patch isn't really a problem for about 80% of their customers.
Yeah true, but now you have an over saturated market filled with steam wanabes and companies who jump on it because they want to corner the market only leaving their market in the dark I can think of a dozen services: Direct2Drive, Impulse, GoodOldGames, Amazon Game Downloads, GamersGate, DLgamer,GreenManGaming.

If I was say EA I would have stuck with steam because it makes more financial sense staying with the popular kid on the block and you don't need to go and spend money on developing and then de-bugging your piece of software. But that is just me.
IMO Blizzard is a bit of a different case. Or got it right so to speak.
1. The whole thing is HTML based. All on a nice webpage, accessible anywhere. No installing of "launching" apps and all that jazz.
2. Their online gaming requires you to login to their servers within the game, like WoW, SC, Diablo etc.
3. All their games download patches with their built in utilities, or a down-loader supplied in the installation folder. (This process is effortless because it will auto launch if you're out of date)
4. Blizz isn't just a publishing company, its actually their own developed games. You won't see Counter Strike in the blizz store.
5. By doing their own marketing and having their own "store" all the responsibility like DLC/updates/patches/bugs/accounts/billing etc etc is all kept in one place.
Personally I have no problem with steam or origin, I just think they can learn a thing or 2 from blizzard. Specifically the concept of avoiding installation of additional utilities. The less notification icons on my task bar, the better.
As for ME3, -------------> getting it on console.

Valve's Terms and Conditions state that for a game to be published on Steam all DLC must be made available on steam as well. When EA made some Dragon Age 2 DLC exclusive to another digital distro (Direct2Drive I think) they violated the Terms and it got taken off Steam.
I understand that EA is trying to launch their own online distro and the only way to do that is to make your most anticipated titles require your new distro, but I've never enjoyed anyone shoving anything down my throat.

Just like you're being forced to buy unleaded petrol instead of diesel when you buy a car that runs on petrol. Fact of the matter is, you choose to purchase it at the end of the day. Why people can't just operate within the constraints of a system every now and then just completely boggles my mind. Especially when it's something as INSIGNIFICANT as installing another distribution platform. Honestly, the world isn't going to end by doing that.
As long as its not gfwl I have no problems using any of the systems, unless they started deleting or restricting my access to my save games as the above system...
Have used origin for fifa 12 and dragon age 2 with no issues. I have the digital deluxe of mass effect 3 preordered from origin.
I enjoyed ME 1 but ME 2 was boring to me and I barely finished it. I had no interest in the dlc and will probably not be playing ME3.
I'm one of the few people who is actually willing to vote with his wallet and not just create a petition and then buy the game anyway (MW2 anyone?).
If they ever release Mirror's Edge 2 and it is Origin exclusive I might seriously reconsider my stance on Origin, but until that time...
Only ever played two GFWL games. More than enough for me to guarantee I'll never play another one.
I'm fairly certain you've logged enough BF3 hours to not have to point that out![]()
